Shanie Love Wallpapers Biography
Shanie Stozek is a Maritimer at heart and still loves to return to Beresford, near Bathurst in the northeastern part of New Brunswick, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean where she grew up. Surrounded by a strong, loving female presence in her mother, grandmother, and extended family, Shanie associates home with love, nurturing, and support. She explored with curiosity the wonder of nature and the sea that surrounded her, drifted out of her house to roam along the rugged coastline and into the woods that make up her native province.
She retains memories of those times by making her environment as rich and powerful as the one she grew up in. Part of this is making her own dishes, and pots, both sculptural and functional, pieces
inspired both by her love of nature and strong sense of family, functional artwork she knows will be cherished today and in years to come. One could say that Shanie's pottery has a pure beauty, each piece unique, subtly different, and slightly imperfect, a stark contrast to the sterile mark of something that flies off a machine.
With numerous scholarships, grants, and awards - most recently The Nel Oudemans award from the Sheila Hugh MacKay Foundation (2008) – already on her resume, this young artist is one to watch. She was the New Brunswick prize winner in the national BMO 1st Art competition, exhibiting work at First Canadian Place in Toronto (2006), was one of 40 artists chosen out of 300 to exhibit her work (a Shino platter) in Baltimore during the annual North American NCECA conference (2005). Shanie Stozek has her work published in international books including 500 Tiles (Lark Books, 2008), and 500 Pitchers (Lark Books, 2006), has exhibited both locally and nationally, is an active member of the New Brunswick Crafts Council, and Emerge Artist Collective. She shows regionally at galleries throughout the Atlantic Provinces, and is now in an exciting stable of professional artists at Distill Gallery in downtown Toronto.
